The 5 Regions of the United States
Later in the school year, we will complete the same activities and graded assignments for all 5 of the regions of the United States.
For each region, students will be reading from a "Scholastic TrueFlix" book. This book will not come home with the students.
Please access this resource through the Peters Township School District website.
*Go to the McMurray Elementary webpage.
*Click on the "Library" link on the left side of the page.
*Click on "Power Library."
*Scroll to the bottom to click on "TrueFlix."
*Enter this code : 40800000428875
This is a fabulous resource to utilize from home. In this resource, the book can be read to the students, as well as review quizzes and additional informational safe websites are provided for the students to explore. Students will have a 10 point book test for each region. They will use their book to complete the test.
Additionally, students will have a states and capitals test for each region. There will be a word bank provided for the map portion of this test. Students are expected to identify where the state is located on the map of that region and then list the state's capital city. We create flashcards in class as well as a map study guide to help provide multiple ways to study. I have found that websites and apps on phones and tablets also help provide practice with this. At the conclusion of our U.S. Regions Unit, the students will take a 50 states and capitals test on all 50! They will need to know the location of all 50 states on the map as well as their capital city. We listen to the "Tour the States" song on YouTube several times each week. This song is a great way to help remember the states and capitals.
There are several supplies that our students need for this Regions Unit. Please check with your child to see if they have the following items. Many items have gone missing or need to be replaced. Thank you for your help with this.
-scissors
-glue
-colored pencils(at least 12)
-earbuds(needed for online resources and access to read aloud option)
